Winona Ann Pickner "Mak'a Luta Win" (Red Earth Woman) was the first baby of the year born on January 2, 1987, at St Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD, to Lisa Stars and Randy Pickner. Winona lived in Pierre until 1995 when her and her family moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Winona attended Edison Middle School and Lincoln High School.

Winona (Noni) welcomed her first daughter, Madison Opal in 2005 and her second daughter, Katelynn Belle in 2008. She worked at various locations in the customer service industry and had a keen ability to connect with all her customers with laughter.

Noni was a dedicated member of the Episcopal Church and served as Junior Warden of the Bishops committee of Tiospaye Wakan in Sioux Falls. She was always ready to help the Native community in Sioux Falls. She was instrumental in developing a community outreach program, called Mutual Aid, in Sioux Falls; which helps anyone with needs and provides resources throughout the community.

Noni loved hanging out with her friends and family. She became an Auntie to any child she met by being the fun one that encouraged laughing, playing and eating candy. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with her Grandma Opal; and always made time to take her to bingo and the casino. In her free time, she enjoyed diamond dotting and coloring.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Madison (Tony) and Katelynn (Blake) LeClaire; maternal grandmother, Opal Stars; mother, Lisa Stars (Rod Bergh); father, Randy Pickner; siblings, Wiley (Kasey) Pickner, Wyatt (Meredith) Pickner, RJ Pickner, Keilani Burroughs, Brian (Alex) Burroughs; Uncles, Dr. Lorenzo Stars, Donnie (Bernie) Stars, Bob (Rosie) Pickner, Tim Pickner, Tom Pickner, Jeff Pickner, Jason Pickner; Aunt, Pam Stars; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her maternal grandfather, Joe Stars, Sr and paternal grandparents, Earl & Margie Pickner and Theresa & Charles "Chuck" Red Bear; an aunt, Helen Andrews; Uncles, Rick Pickner, Michael "Todd" Red Bear, Charles "Sonny" Red Bear, Earlwyn Pickner; Aunt, Debra Pickner; hunka mother, Ramona Burroughs; brother, Andrew Burroughs.
