William Bill Guthmiller was born September 17, 1924 in Fairfax, SD to Jake and Helen (Hutchison) Guthmiller. Bill died May 21, 2007 at the Long Term Care Center in Glencoe, Minnesota.
He graduated from Burke High School in 1942. Bill then joined the Navy Air Corp. for four years in WWII as a turret gunner. He was married December 21, 1944 at United Methodist Church in Burke, SD to Marilyn Ida Schlaht. Bill finished his service in November 1945 and in 1946 he enrolled in the college of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, MO.
Together Bill and Marilyn raised three sons: William Lee, Clay Bruce, and Jon Joel. He started his career as a mortician in Kimball, SD and retired in Denison, IA. In 1997 Bill and his wife moved to Hutchinson, MN and later to Glencoe, MN.
Bills greatest joy in life, first and foremost, was his wife Marilyn. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, eating Dairy Queen with his grandkids, and watching boxing and bull riding.
His wife Marilyn, his parents Helen and Jacob, and one brother Earl Guthmiller preceded him in death.
His sisters Lois Lee of Pierre, SD; Clarke Hoover of Parker, SD; Carol Hutchison of Winner, SD and a sister-in-law, Maxine Dutchie Guthmiller of Rapid City, SD, survive him. Other survivors include one brother, Jerry Hutchison of Burke, SD; his three sons William Lee of Omaha, NE; Clay Bruce of Johnston, IA; Jon Joel of Hutchinson, MN, ten grandchildren, five great grand children and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery of Burke. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
