Wendell L. Creasey was born November 30, 1927 at Filer, Idaho the third of eight children, to Wayne and Ruth (Carmichael) Creasey and he died May 20, 2008 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 80 years.
Wendell attended school in the Filer area and graduated from High School in 1945. in January of 1946 he enlisted in the Navy where he served for two years. He saw duty in the Pacific arena and was a participant in the Bikini Bomb Test at the crossroads in the Pacific.
On May 25, 1947 Wendell was united in marriage to Lorraine Heyden in the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church in Filer, Idaho. They lived briefly in California where he was stationed on Mare Island, while in the Navy. He was honorably discharged at the end of 1947 and they returned to southern Idaho. They moved to Seattle, Washington for a time where their first daughter, Patricia Gayle, was born in February of 1949. in December of 1951 they moved to Mills, Nebraska where they worked for the Jim and Esther Cook family for a year. In 1952 he began working for the Farmers Union COOP, driving fuel truck delivering fuel to area farmers.
In February of 1953 a second daughter, Ruth, was born. Wendy arrived in June of 1955. He attended a month of Managers Schooling in St. Paul, Minnesota in February of 1957. He was given a propane plant to manage for Cenex in White Lake, South Dakota in March of 1957. In December of 1961 Cenex moved him to Stratford, Wisconsin to manage another propane plant. They lived in Stratford for 20 1/2 years, which is where their three daughters went to school and were married. In July of 1982, he transferred to Twin Falls, Idaho to start another propane plant. He worked there until he retired in 1989. He continued to work at the new plant under new management until ill health forced him to quit.
In 1996 Wendell and Lorraine moved to Burke, South Dakota. He became interested in woodworking and continued to golf in the summers and bowl in the winters. He loved to garden and care for his lawn. He loved to share the vegetables with others. He loved sports. He played baseball, football and was co-captain of the basketball team in high school. He enjoyed watching sports on TV.
Wendell was preceded in death by his father in 1972 and his mother in 1981; his brothers: Farrell, Gordon, Elwin, Ronald, and one sister, Arleta.
Wendell is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Lorraine of Burke, SD; his daughters: Patricia (Lester) Lewis of Medford, WI; Ruth (Randy) Seehafer of Knightstown, IN; and Wendy (Paul) Drexler of Stratford, WI; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Donald of Leavenworth, WA and Larry of Lincoln City, OR; as well as several nieces, nephews, and his beloved church family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will in the Spotted Tail Cemetery, Jamison, NE. There will be a prayer service on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will be prior to both services at the funeral home.
