Obituary

Wayne's Funeral Service will be live streamed through the Grace Lutheran Church, Burke South Dakota, Facebook and Youtube pages.

Wayne LeRoy Schoenefeld was born August 9, 1939 to Alvin and Vera (Sieh) Schoenefeld at the Burke Hospital in Burke, South Dakota.

He grew up on the family farm 7 miles west of Naper, Nebraska, attended country grade school and graduated in 1956 from Naper High School.  Following graduation he enrolled in Barber College in Sioux City, Iowa, then barbering in Norfolk, Nebraska for two years.

On June 6, 1959 he and Barbara Vogt were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Naper.  They lived a short time on the Hank and Edna Kannenberg farm, then renting the Jake Kersheman farm for 7 years.  They then purchased his Grandad, Adam Schoenefeld's farm in 1967 where they still reside.

Wayne passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke on November 11, 2025.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 66 years Barbara; four sons: Bruce (Karrie) of Kearney, NE; Clayton of Herrick, SD; Jason (Becky) of Sioux Falls, SD; and Weston (Teri) of Burke, SD; grandchildren: Danielle (Noah) Beck, Landon (Abbie) Schoenefeld; Arhea and Jon Schoenefeld; great-grandchildren: DeShawn and Zayden, and Patrick Valera, siblings and their families: Shirley (Ken) Stoltenberg, Dennis (Mary) Schoenefeld, and Dale (Sara) Schoenefeld.

Wayne was preceded in death by his Parents Alvin and Vera; and his great-grandson Bryer Layne Beck.

Wayne served several positions at Grace Lutheran Church throughout the years, one being a member of the Building Committee during the construction of the addition to Grace in 2004-2005.  He was a school board member in Burke for several years and was also a volunteer coach when the boys were involved with baseball.

The German name Schoenefeld, means "Beautiful Field" was a fitting reflection of his passion for hard work.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Nebraska Lutheran High School - 203 Kendall Street - Waco, Nebraska 68460 or to Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota.
