Vivian Irene Reckling was born December 11, 1922 to Everett James Northrup and Olga Walstrom Northrup.
She attended Fairfax School at Fairfax, South Dakota graduating in 1940. She then studied at Southern Normal School in Springfield, South Dakota earning a teaching certificate. She taught at country school for 2 years until her marriage to Lorin W. Reckling on March 31st 1944. To this union two children were born; a son Richard and a daughter Lorice.
Vivian was a lifetime resident of Fairfax, South Dakota working on the farm with her husband doing such chores as milking cows, raising chickens and other livestock. She loved gardening and preserving or canning many of those items. Some of her other hobbies included ceramics, quilting, sewing, arts and crafts, cooking and baking. She worked at the Fairfax, South Dakota school for 14 years as assistant cook with Jettie Mathews. In all those years they never had one disagreement.
She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Noreen of Norfolk, Nebraska, daughter Lorice and her husband Leland Zobrist of Atkinson, Nebraska, eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She passed away on December 24, 2011 at the Gregory Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 89 years 13 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lorin, her parents Everett and Olga Northrup, a brother Kenneth of Whiting, Iowa, and a great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Fairfax. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.
