Vivian Louise (Drey) Leibel was born September 10, 1924 on a farm east of Gregory, South Dakota to Albert and Edna (Jones) Drey. She died August 23, 2013 at the Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory at the age of 88.

Vivian attended country school in the Gregory area through the eighth grade. Moving several times, the family finally settled on a farm three miles south of Burke. She lived with, and took care of, her father until 1954. On May 1, 1954 she was joined in marriage to David E. Leibel in Burke. To this union were born three children: David Wayne in 1956, Terry Lee in 1958 and Kelly David in 1962.

In 1954 Dave and Vivian built a new house on the farm five miles southwest of Burke. They farmed until 1980 , at which time they retired and built a new home one mile south of Burke. Her husband Dave died in 1986. In 1993, she moved to the Burke Senior Village for a very short period of time. She decided she needed a house and purchased one in Burke. In 2005 she moved to Yankton, South Dakota for a short period of time and then back to the Senior Village in 2006. In 2011 she moved to the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, where she lived until her death.

Like any farm wife, she worked with and stood by her husband on the farm, in both good times and in bad. In general, she liked the farm life, except for those darn gravel roads. In good times she enjoyed life. In bad times she had her strong Christian Faith. She was a great cook and enjoyed her garden.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Dave; son David in 1961; her parents; her brothers: Virgil, Vernon and Lyle; her brothers-in-law: Ernie Howell and John Acton; her sister-in-law, LaDora Drey; and her nephews: Dudley Drey and Lynn Drey. She is survived by her sons: Terry (Jody) of Pierre, SD; and Kelly (Kymm) of Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren: Carrie (Mike) Henrickson of Mitchell, SD; Kelly (Julie) Wilhelmsen of Baltic, SD; Kyle (Amber) Wilhelmsen of Burke, SD; Kadie (Gary) Nickerson of Pierre, SD; Kelsie (Kolt) Hughes of Pierre, SD; Andrea (Jay) Rinder of Sioux Falls, SD; and Blake and Mason Leibel of Los Angeles, CA; as well as 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Pauline Howell and Marcy Acton; her brothers: Gerald Drey and Marvin Drey; her sisters-in-law: Leitha Drey and Edith Drey and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a rosary on Sunday at 7 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
