Obituary

Vincent Joseph John Hausmann was born August 10, 1923 at Bonesteel, South Dakota to William and Catherine (Sondgeroth) Hausmann and died August 31, 2007 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 84 years.

Vincent attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and Bonesteel High School, graduating in 1941. He moved to Omaha, Nebraska in July of 1941 to work in the B-26 and B-17 Bomber plants. He worked there until 1943 when he was inducted into the US Air Force. There he attended radio and radar schooling, and worked on the bombers that were readied for overseas service. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Vince worked in Helena, Montana for five years before returning to Omaha. There he was the office manager for Yellow Cab Company until 1962, when he started working as a night auditor for the famous Blackstone Hotel, a job he held for fourteen and a half years. He also held a similar job with Ramada Inn for eight years.

In 1983, Vince returned to Bonesteel where he worked as an assistant janitor at the High School and part-time for the City of Bonesteel until 2001. In April of 2001 he began a new career as a cook's helper and worked for the Over 50 Club. He rode many miles on the streets and highways on his bicycle for exercise. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In 2003, on his 80th birthday, he moved into the Haisch Haus.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine; his brothers and sisters: Bernie, Lawrence, Tillie, Josephine, Alvin, Threse "Tess", Ellen and Bonita; as well as two nephews: Fred Bohling and Peter Hausmann.

Vincent is survived by his brother, Jerry and wife Rachel of Silver Bay, MN; his sister, Caroline Bruning of Ft. Dodge, IA; his brother-in-law, Don Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel, SD. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bonesteel. There will be a rosary on Monday at 7:30 PM at the church
