Velma Anna Barnes was born March 22, 1920 at Burke, South Dakota, the daughter of Dan and Gertrude (Roggow) Klein. She died August 10, 2012 at the Fountain Springs Health Care Center in Rapid City, South Dakota at the age of 92 years.

Velma was raised in the Burke and Lucas area. She always enjoyed helping her grandmother, Anna Roggow, who she loved and was very close to.

In 1950, Velma married Glen Barnes of Dallas, South Dakota. They made their first home in Spirit Lake, Iowa for one year. The next several years were spent on road construction through out South Dakota. In 1970, Glen and Velma moved to Rapid City, South Dakota and resided there until their deaths.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Barnes of 58 years; her parents, Dan and Gertrude; and by four brothers: Harold Klein of Omaha, Nebraska; Howard and Norris Klein of Oregon and by Norman Klein of Burke, South Dakota.

Velma is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Klein) Nelson of Torrance, California, three sisters-in-law and by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
