Obituary

Thomas Glenn Higgins was born March 4, 1946 to Thomas & Josephine (Timmerman) Higgins in Stuart, Nebraska & passed away after a long battle of cancer, on March 6, 2021 in Good Samaritan Nursing home, Atkinson, Nebraska.  Thomas had just celebrated his 75th birthday.

Thomas attended country school growing up until he went to Spring View School his Freshman year where he graduated from there in 1964.  He then went to college for two years for a chemistry.  Meanwhile he worked at Samsonite Luggage where he was very proud of being a chemist there and developing glues.

In 1965, Thomas married Margo Lynn Kern and they started a family at the home of the Higgins Ranch to this union Shaun Higgins & Jory Higgins.  He was very proud of his cattle and work of the Higgins Ranch.

Thomas was a director of the NRD board for 30 years.  He was just presented an appreciation clock for his 30 years of service as lower Niobrara NRD director.  Thomas was also on the Nebraska Operation Game Thief Board.

He enjoyed taking in hunters on the Higgins Ranch where they traveled in from Alaska to the east coast to come hunt on his land.  He remained friends with many of them.    Tommy enjoyed loading up Teddy bear their Corgi to take trips on the gator around the ranch. Teddy went everywhere with him.  That being said, Tommy thoroughly enjoyed Teddy coming to see him in the hospital and was able to come daily at the nursing home.  He would always ask where's Debbie & where's Teddy?  This was a sure highlight in his final days.

The last 4 years Thomas & Debbie spent winters as snowbirds in California where they made many friends.  Mornings in California started with coffee as soon as he woke up, games of Aggravation with the guys from the area and then when 4:00 rolled around it was Happy Hour.

He was survived by his wife, Debbie of Atkinson; sons, Shaun Higgins of Naper; Jory (Tammy) Higgins of Gothenburg; grandchildren, Thomas Higgins, Dillon Higgins, Taylor Higgins, Annie Bassett, Abbigayle Bassett, and Andrea Bassett.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Josephine Higgins; sister, Hazel Determan; brother-in-law Raymond Determan.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE.  Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Naper, NE.  There will be a rosary on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at the church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
