Terry Liewer, son of Matt and Lucille (Kinport) Liewer, was born on July 7, 1940 in Spencer, NE. He was the oldest of seven children. He spent his childhood years growing up on the family farm west of Butte, NE. Terry passed away peacefully at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD, on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.
He attended S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Butte through the 8 th grade and graduated from Butte High School in 1958. He then worked at the Fremont Gas Company in Fremont, NE. In 1963, he was drafted and served two years in the army in Korea. After his discharge, he returned to work at the Farmers Union Oil Company in Fairfax, SD. On August 12, 1967, Terry married Lorraine Koenig. Together they brought two beautiful daughters into this world, Traci and Chris. Liewer's Grocery Store opened its doors on February 1, 1971 in Fairfax. Terry owned and operated the store for 33 years.
Terry and Lorraine resided in Fairfax all 53 years of their married life. Terry was an active member of the community, the fire department, and his church. He enjoyed his family, his home, playing cards, watching westerns, and visiting with family and friends. Along with that, Terry enjoyed his Chevy pickups and taking those Sunday drives.
Those left to cherish Terry's memory are his wife, Lorraine Liewer; children, Traci (Jory) Turk of Sheridan, WY and Chris (Kevin) Lode of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Maci and Belle Turk; brothers and sisters, Larry (Nadine) Liewer, Neil Liewer, Karen LeMunyan, Cathy (Ed) Reiman, Patty (Larry) Schroetlin, and Steve (Kathy) Liewer, sister-in-law Lee Reiser, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Lucille Liewer, parents-in-law Joe and Ida Koenig, and brothers-in-law: Ken Reiser, Gary LeMunyan, and Lawrence Koenig. Terry will be greatly missed and remembered by all those who knew and loved him.
Family funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Cemetery, Fairfax. A rosary will be held on Friday at 7:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
