November 9, 1946 – January 12, 2021
Sharon Kaye Jensen was born November 9, 1946 in Gregory, SD to Lyle Sr and Cecil (Alexander) Vaughn and passed away January 12, 2021 at home surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Sharon grew up south of St. Charles, SD and graduated from Bonesteel High School in 1964. She obtained her teacher certificate from Springfield State College and graduated from USD in 1986 with her bachelors in Elementary Education.
Over the years Sharon held many positions: Head Dairy Operator at the Jensen Farm, teacher, blackjack dealer and her favorite which was waitress/bartender. She loved working with the public and made many friends over the years.
On May 31, 1969 Sharon married Helmer Jensen of Fairfax and to this union 2 children were born: Sonya Kaye and Anton Helmer. Sharon and Helmer celebrated 40 years together on May 31, 2009.
Sharon and Helmer entertained many over the years with their country/western band "The Scalp Creek Raiders" with Sharon playing drums on her glittery red drum set.
Sharon's biggest joy in life was her beloved grandchildren and her most cherished moments were hosting and gathering with family.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Sonya and husband Duane Fernau and grandchildren Ethan (Kallie) and Lexie; Son Anton and wife Sherry and grandchildren Austin, Anton and Ayden; sister Rosemary (Lamone) Kerner; sisters in law DeAnne Vaughn, Betty Vaughn and Nila (Ronnie) Koenig; Brother in law Clayton Steele and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Helmer, sisters Mildred (in infancy), Ada Mae, Inez and twin Karon; brothers Lyle Jr., Ray and Paul. In laws Don Moody, Darrell Tech and Loretta Vaughn.
Sharon was a great woman who lived a full and memorable life. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 10:00 AM at The City Hall in Fairfax, South Dakota. Burial will be in the Knollcrest Cemetery in Naper, NE. there will be a prayer service on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Hall. Visitation will be one hour prior to both of the service at the Hall.
