Rosalain (Opbroek) Pistulka, 102, died on July 31, 2011 at the AVERA Gregory Healthcare Center, Gregory SD.
Rosalain was born to Henry and Margaret (Ritz) Opbroek on April 16, 1909 at Baker, NE. After her schooling, she went by train to Deadwood to work in the St. Joseph's Hospital. She also did housework and childcare in private homes.
On August 31, 1932 Rosalain was united in marriage to Charles Pistulka at Fairfax. To this union five children were born: Eleanor, Duane, Kenneth, Louis, and Daniel. Together, Charles and Rosalain lived on a farm for 31 years, retiring to Fairfax in September 1963. Rosalain enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and visiting with neighbors.
In August of 1997, Rosalain and her late husband moved to the Bonesteel Blacksmith Manor. In September of 2004, Rosalain moved to the Haisch Haus in Bonesteel. In 2008, she entered the Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory. She enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Rosalain is survived by her five children, Eleanor (Leo, deceased 2008) Horst, Milwaukie, OR; Duane (Carol) Pistulka, Salem, SD; Kenneth (Shirley) Pistulka, Liberty, MO; Louis (Lana) Pistulka, Greybull, WY; and Dan (Carol) Pistulka, Omaha, NE. Survivors also include 22 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, one brother, three sisters, three sister-in-laws, and one brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, three sisters, and one great granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fairfax, SD on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday , August 2 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with vigil service and rosary following at 7:00 p.m.
