Obituary

Roger Lee Witt was born on August 5, 1956 in Burke SD to Raymond and Suzanne (Kershman) Witt. He passed away on May 14, 2021 at the age of 64 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, after a very brief illness.

Roger grew up on the family farm, where he worked alongside his parents, 5 older brothers, and younger sister. They milked cows, raised pigs, and did all the things that you would do on a family farm of that time. It was here that he learned the value of hard work, but also what it meant to be family, how to love, laugh, and have fun!

Roger was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and continued to be an active member of the parish. He attended Bonesteel School and graduated as a proud member of the class of 1974. After graduation he continued to work on the farm with his Dad and also went to work for neighbors, Loren and Darlene Jons, on their dairy. In 1979 he went to work for Divine Concrete in Bonesteel where he worked for over 30 years.  Roger worked alongside many great people and through this work met many customers whom easily became friends. He was known for his attention to detail and making sure the job was done right and up to his standards.  He expected those working with him to do the same. In 2013 he went to work for himself as a carpenter where this work ethic continued. His sons and all who worked with him would say there were two ways to do things: the wrong way or the "Roger" way.

Roger met the love of his life, Roberta Pistulka, from Fairfax, SD. They married in 1980 and enjoyed 40 years of marriage while making memories with friends and family by, going on ski trips, attending countless house parties, and many trips and parties with the Divine Crew. There are lots of fun stories to tell!

Roger and Roberta were blessed to have 4 children; Quentin, Preston, Trisha, and Darrin. Many nights were spent at a ballfield or gym watching their children participate in school and college activities. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter; he treasured sharing those moments with his family. In the fall he would look for the 30 point buck, and in the spring and summer you would find him down at Whetstone Bay fishing for walleye. He always said, "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work."

Those left to cherish the memories are his bride (and greatest catch) Roberta, their children: Quentin (Angela) Witt of Columbus, NE; Preston (Jenna) Witt of Norfolk, NE; Trisha (Dan) Cahoy of Fairfax, SD; and Darrin Witt of Bonesteel, SD; 10 grandchildren, Grady, Landri, and Berkley Witt of Columbus, NE; Tessa, Cooper, Lucy, and Logan Witt of Norfolk, NE; and Brielle, Bridget, and Jacob Cahoy of Fairfax, SD. His siblings Wayne Witt of Kirtland, NM; Jerald Witt of Omaha NE;  Marlin Witt of San Diego, CA; Elmer (Mary) Witt of North Platte, NE; Benita (Doug) Mahoney of Bonesteel, SD and sister-in-law Charlotte Witt of Fresno, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, oldest brother, Alvin, in-laws Robert and Rita Pistulka, sister-in-law, Beverly Witt and nephew, Ray Witt. He leaves behind a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bonesteel Fire Department or Ambulance Service.

Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all he met. He will be remembered for his smile, laughter, hugs and one-liners.
