IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Lavern
Finke
November 11, 1944 – July 28, 2021
Robert "Bob" Finke, 76, of Sioux Falls died Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
Bob was born on November 11, 1944, in Wheaton, MN to Traverse and Algy (Larson) Finke. He was raised on the farm in rural Bovey, MN, and graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine, MN in 1963.
While working for a tree trimming company, he met and fell in love with Mavonne Burger. They were wed on November 13, 1965, in Bonesteel, SD. He served as a medic during the Vietnam War. After being discharged, he and Mavonne traveled around the area following a bridge construction company. Eventually, they settled in Gregory, SD where he was trained as an auto body technician. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1976 where he and Mavonne raised their three daughters and Bob continued his auto body career working for Billion Motors. He retired from Billion's after over 35 years of service.
Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 36 of Bonesteel. He was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant, and turkey, and loved fishing for walleye and crappie on lakes of Northern Minnesota and on the Missouri River near Bonesteel. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his tomatoes and kohlrabi. If you were someone he really cared about, he gave you your own special nickname like Ralphie, Buddies, Mousie, Spud, Bomba, or Junior. Bob spent his spare time woodworking, making his own lures, and fixing the unfixable and he couldn't pass up a cold Old Milwaukee with friends.
He is survived by his daughters Tracy (Russ) Schmidt of Menominee, NE, Tricia Finke of Sioux Falls, Tara (Roberto) Padilla of Stanton, NE. His grandchildren Matt (Amanda) Oltmanns of Viborg, SD, Kelsey Oltmanns of Sioux Falls, Marissa, Nathan, and Jada Schmidt of Menominee, NE, and RJ Padilla of Stanton, NE.
