Obituary

Richard Dean Berg was born December 25, 1945 at Bagley, Minnesota to Floyd & Florence (Ringstad) Berg and he died August 31, 2026 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota at the age of 80 years.

Richard was the middle child of three. He spent his years growing up in Gully, Minnesota. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy, since “he didn't like the color green”. He spent two years active duty with two trips across the ocean to the Mediterranean Sea and two years reserve duty when he returned home. He didn't want to farm so he tested for the police force, passed and after completing the academy, became Officer Berg. He spent the next 29 1/2 years “chasing taillights”, He worked as a Minnesota State Trooper, retiring as a Sergeant.

Dick enjoyed working with wood and refurbishing old tools. I think his favorite tool was anything “Yankee” brand.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Darlene, his daughter-in-law Tami Norton Berg and his previous wife Shirley (Forsch) Berg.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Denise (Mike) Whitaker; two sons: Steven (Krysty) Berg and Scott Berg; his wife Sego (Husted) Berg; and five step-children: Deserae Lawrence, Dawn (Wade) Peterson, Jonathan Lawrence, Dazee (Allan) Slagle and Mark Deurmier; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Carol (Bruce) Johnstun.

Fair winds and smooth sailing, Dick—We Love You !!
