Obituary

Pamela Jean Muller, age 69, of Naper, Nebraska beloved mama, sister, cook, and friend passed away March 30, 2021 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital, O'Neill, NE.  Pam was brought into this world on February 17, 1952 by her parents Don and Donna (Weickum) Smith in Burke, South Dakota.  Pam grew up in many places as a child, she said her favorite place to live was the San Diego,California area.  We also know that Pam's kindness and ability to be a great friend started at a young age as one of her life long friends she met in grade school in Valentine, NE during the many moves as a child.  Pam returned to Nebraska and graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1970. Pam worked with Ruth Silver on the White Horse Ranch.    Pam was united in marriage to Terry Muller on March 3, 1973 and to this union two children,  Chad and Chandra were born.  Pam and Terry moved to her grandparents (Rudy and Irene Weickum's) farm in 1979 on the Keya Paha River. Her top priority was raising her children and taking care of all of her family in the Naper area.  She also helped take care of the farm, raised chickens for the entire family, gardening, canning vegetables, freezing corn, making deer bologna all to help last the entire next year for her family and her grandparents and aunts and uncles along with neighbors and friends.  She was passionate about cooking and recipes from her early days and all the way until the end (she may have told us to combine the frozen coke and vanilla ice cream in the hospital).  You never wanted Pam to taste something you cooked for fear she might say "that tastes flat"!  Pam worked as a cook at the Naper School and also worked in the Naper Grocery store.  Her biggest cooking passion came to fruition at the Naper Café which she became a staple to this establishment.  She would make all of the homemade pies, the home made buns, pans of cinnamon rolls, salads for the salad bar and of course her famous Enchilada and Fry Bread Taco Friday Night special.  She loved trying new recipes, watching cooking shows, and then she would put them to work for everyone to enjoy.  Pam had a way with cooking that could make anything taste amazing and always was getting people to come back for more.  She even had the ability to make amazing late night breakfasts if her friends or family would wake her up and ask her to do so and was always happy to!  If you were lucky enough to meet Pam you found yourself a true angel on earth.  She would listen, give advice, give you a hug if you needed, make you laugh, put you in your place if you needed it as well and always putting other people first before her own needs.  It's hard to imagine Naper or the Café without Pam, hence the nickname "NAPER PAM".   Pam also had a very funny side to her and loved to crack jokes and make people laugh especially while having a good time at the Naper Lounge on karaoke nights or dances.  Pam loved music from the time she was young, and even in her last days, we were listening to her favorite songs and she knew all the words and would tap her hands and feet to the music. One of her favorite songs was "Spirit In The Sky".   Pam loved the sun, water, getting a tan while fishing or just sitting and enjoying what mother nature provided, be it the birds, ground squirrels, deer, turkeys or the 'cool breeze' and especially rescuing any stray dog that came to Naper.  Pam's beauty as a person started on the inside  and what we saw on the outside was only a tiny fraction of the beauty she possessed.  Pam was preceded in death by her parents Don and Donna, her grandparents Rudy and Irene, and her Granny Alice.  Those left to celebrate Pam's memories, her son Chad and wife Kiley and daughters, her daughter Chandra, her brothers Brad Smith, Terry McNair, and Rick McNair and her nieces and nephews along with the town of Naper and all of her many friends and family.
