Norma was born on December 23, 1947 to Edgar & Katherine (Eagle Thunder) Herman. Norma started her spiritual journey on March 5, 2020 at Avantara Rehab Center in Redfield, SD
At the age of 2 years, Norma went to live with Pierre Sr. & Josephine (Andrews) LaPointe. They raised her as their own daughter into adulthood. She spent her childhood with her LaPointe family.
Norma attended school in Gregory & St. Charles. She attended Job Corp in California for nursing. After Job Corp she returned to Milk's Camp until 1965, she relocated to Cleveland, Ohio to baby sit for her aunt Rita Carlson
She met and married Kenneth Barker to this union 2 daughters were born Mona and Colette
In 1970, she met and married Bernard Kornokovich, to this union her son Raymond was born.
In 1982 Norma moved to Pierre to make her home. She was employed at Pierre Indian Learning Center until 1991. In 1998 Norma moved to Chamberlain where she was employed at St. Joseph's Indian School until her retirement because of health issues.
In 2013, Norma resided at River view Retirement home due to dementia. In 2014 she was transferred to Golden Living Center in Redfield for her safety because of her advanced stage of dementia.
Norma leaves to mourn her daughters Mona of Nebraska, Collette of Gregory, son Raymond of Chamberlain. Grandchildren Anthony, Megan Jacob and Mariah of Gregory, Brianna and Coleman of Nebraska. Sisters Carol of Sioux Falls, Sarah and Dottie of Mission, Shirley (Alfred) Old Lodge of Bonesteel, Wanda Miner of Yankton. Brothers Elton, Pat and Chet all of Mission and Loran (Barb) LaPointe of Wagner. Aunts Rita Carlson, Winifred Andrews of Chamberlain. Uncles Jesse Andrews Jr of Sioux Falls, Francis LeClair. And many nieces, nephews and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar Herman and Katherine Rainwater., Pierre Sr. and Josephine LaPointe. Grandparents Philip and Hannah LeClair, Jesse Sr. and Mercy Andrews, Jim and Ellen Herman. Sisters Regina Bad Horse, Almeda LaPointe. Brothers Marvin, Pierre Jr LaPointe, Rodney Eagle Thunder, Richard, Parnell and Timothy Herman.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the City Hall in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Ponca Creek UCC Cemetery, St. Charles, SD. There will be a wake on Wednesday at the hall.
