Obituary

Milo Elwood Reber was born June 2, 1919, the first child of Elwood and Dorotha (Cady) Reber, at Jamison, Nebraska in his grandparents house. He died at his home after losing his battle with lung cancer at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Milo attended various country schools in the surrounding area and then attended Burke High School, graduating in 1939. After graduation he worked as a hired man for farmers in the area. He also helped at Blakes Store in Jamison. He was enrolled with the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the Chamberlain area during his time with the CCC. He was drafted into the United States Army at Ft. Crook, Nebraska on June 30, 1942. He served in the European Theater during World War II. He was proud of his military duty and was honorably discharged from Camp Beale, California on December 19, 1945.

On March 17, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lovera Sophia Peterson at Gregory, South Dakota and to this union three sons and three daughters were born.

Milo was a lifetime member of the Naper VFW Post #8256 and the Congregational Church in Naper. He had a great love for his family and enjoyed visits and get togethers. He was an avid card player and created Milo Reber style pitch. He was a notorious joker and enjoyed seeing people smile from his antics. Milo farmed all of his life and chose to spend his final days on the farm he loved.

Survivors include his wife, Lovera of Naper, NE; his sister, Reta (Darrell) McCollam of Shelbyville, IL; his children: Nilo Gene of Gregory, SD; Dale Dean of Naper, NE; Mary Jane (Dennis) Schoenefeld of Butte, NE; Donn Alan (Kathy) of Gregory, SD; and Myra Linn of Burke, SD; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Milo was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rene Vali; his parents; two brothers; one grandson and one granddaughter.
