Mildred Umberger, age 93, died April 21, 2012 at the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota.

Mildred Mary Lubbers was born May 31, 1918 on a farm near Dixon, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Sophie (Wacker) Lubbers. On March 25, 1939, Mildred was united in marriage to Charles Umberger. To this union two sons and one daughter were born: Dwaine, Shirley and Donald. Following their marriage, Mildred and Charles farmed and ranched for many years east of Burke, South Dakota.

Mildred was a kind and generous woman, and during her younger years, she was a hardworking ranch wife. She loved her children and grandchildren very much, and she will be greatly missed.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Benjamin and Sophie; three brothers: Ray, Clem and Francis (Fritz); and one sister, Theresa.

Mildred is survived by her three children: Dwaine and wife Susan of Herrick, SD; Shirley and husband Orland Kruse of Rapid City, SD; and Donald and wife Yvonne of Belle Fourche, SD; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Grim of Gregory, SD; one brother, Lawrence of Minnetonka, MN and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a rosary on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
