Melvin Klein was born May 28, 1927 on the family farm east of Burke, South Dakota to Simon and Emma (Hildebrand) Klein. He died January 7, 2022 at the Arbor Care Nursing Home in Fullerton, Nebraska at the age of 94 years.
Melvin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Butte Valley School and later entered the US Army during the Korean War in 1951. His basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and he spent 17 months in England, where he served until 1953.
He was united in marriage to Mayme Blank on September 20, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, Nebraska. Mel and Mayme lived and farmed for many years near Madison. Melvin also operated his manufacturing business for 17 years, building and designing farm products. He had a passion for playing the accordion and piano for many anniversary's and birthday parties. They later made their home in Norfolk, Nebraska. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5763 and the American Legion in Madison, Nebraska.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brothers Rudy (Mildred) and Reuben (Vivian) and an infant brother.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mayme; children: Lana Forney of Severance, Colorado; Barb (Pat) Korth of Platte Center, Nebraska and Brenda Burke of Stromsburg, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, his brother Milo (Kathy) Klein of Burke, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Melvin Klein, age 94 of Norfolk, NE will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be Friday morning prior to the funeral service.
