Mary Catherine Schmitz age 94 of Bonesteel, SD passed away Friday June 26, 2009 at the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory.

Mary Catherine (Darcy) Schmitz was born June 4, 1915 in Stephen, MN to Michael and Jennie (Bulger) Darcy. She lived in Nebraska with her family for a short while and then moved to Bonesteel where Mary graduated from Bonesteel High School in 1933.

She married Clarence Schmitz in 1935. To this union eight children were born.

Mary was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Alter Society in Bonesteel. Mary enjoyed her garden and taking care of her flowers. She loved animals and thoroughly enjoyed life. Her family and grandchildren were the most important and precious people in her life.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Bill and Elda Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD; Mike and Velma Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD; Phillis and Ronnie Bentson of Bonesteel, SD; Frances and Bob Mahaffey of Omaha, NE; Nub and Karon Schmitz of Brandon, SD; Rose and Jim Selle of Bonesteel,, SD; Rick and Jane Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD; and Vic and Leana Schmitz of Gregory, SD; one sister Lucille Darcy Truax of Littleton, CO; 27 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence in 1989, three brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the St. Marys Cemetery in Bonesteel. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM Monday, June 29th at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to both services at the church.
