Grace Marie Schoenefeld was born December 9, 1916 at the home of her parents Adam and Anna (Kortmeyer) Schoenefeld. She died December 3, 2006 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 89 years.

Marie was baptized April 8, 1917 at the German Zion Lutheran Church near Naper, Nebraska. She lived with her parents nine miles northwest of Naper, Nebraska until their retirement in 1945. At that time they moved to Burke, South Dakota. She continued to live in their home following their deaths. She later resided at the Haisch Haus in Bonesteel, South Dakota.

Marie focused her life on hard work, while on the farm. She worked at the Burke Hotel and the Burke Rest Home through out the years. Her family remembers her many delicious pies, jellies and pickles, all made by memory onlyShe enjoyed playing cards, bingo and family gatherings, and many of the jokes that were pulled on her by the nephews. She was active in the Burke Senior Center. Marie was a kind and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, and to all who knew her.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alvin; her sisters: Clara Besmer and Ida Limmer; and an infant sister, Anna.

Marie is survived by her nine nephews and nieces and their families and special friends, Harvey and Gigi Glover of Burke, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
