M arie Louise Hageman was born September 23, 1922 to Edward and Rebecca (Kothe) Gruener on a farm near Trumbull, Nebraska, a little town northeast of Hastings, Nebraska. She died December 7, 2008 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 86 years.
Marie was baptized as a baby in a country church south of Hastings, Nebraska. She was confirmed as a young girl in the Lutheran church in Hastings. She attended school for eight years 1/2 mile east of her parents home. She lived there until 1942 when she moved to a farm near Dixon, South Dakota with her parents, her sister and her brother.
Marie married Evertte Hageman on April 23, 1947 at Vermillion, South Dakota and together they raised their six children. She worked at Swift & Company in Gregory and also for Soper's Beauty Salon. She then began working for Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, a job she held for 27 years.
Marie is survived by three sons: Darrell and wife Judy of Pulaski, TN; Ronald and friend Barb of Staples, MN; and Richard of Winner, SD; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Evertte; her sons: Gary, Douglas and Randy; a daughter, Marilyn Jean and an infant daughter, Cheryl Elaine; a sister, Leona Peck and a brother Earl Gruener.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Assembly of God Church in Winner, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
