Obituary

Margaret Elsie Koenig was born August 20, 1921 on the family farm north of Fairfax, South Dakota to Albert and Margaret (Opst Cahoy) Pistulka. She died October 26, 2009 at the Lake Andes Healthcare Center in Lake Andes, South Dakota at the age of 88 years.
Margaret grew up on the Pistulka homestead. She attended school through the eighth grade at Fairfax Public School. Following school, she worked on her parents farm and cared for the children of friends and neighbors. She moved to Fairfax with her parents in 1946 and began working at the Pratt General Store.
Margaret and Leonard Koenig were married on June 13, 1950 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Fairfax. They moved to their farm east of Fairfax where they raised their four children. They retired from the farm and moved to Bonesteel in 1990.
St. Anthonys Parish received the benefit of Margarets generosity over the years. She served as secretary of the Altar Society and worked on many committees. She also took meticulous care of the altar linens for many years.
Margaret was a loving mother and grandmother spending many hours with her children and grandchildren sharing her faith with them and encouraging them in their own faith journeys.
She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, crocheting and baking. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed her crazy cake and milk. They played cards, school, office and store in her basement. She always kept her kitchen drawer stocked with cookies.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Leonard.
Margaret is survived by her four children: her twin sons, Anthony and wife Mary Ann of Fairfax, SD and Thomas and wife Laura of Torrington, WY; her daughters, Catherine and husband Gregory Brandner of Pierre, SD and Clara and husband Jim Waterbury of Bonesteel, SD; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Pistulka of Bonesteel, SD; her sister, Dorothy Thomas of Minot, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the St. Anthonys Catholic Cemetery of Fairfax. There will be a rosary on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
