Margaret Anna "Peggy" Duerfeldt was born July 15, 1923 at White River, South Dakota to Clifford and Myrtle (Wolf) Phillips and she died November 24, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica, South Dakota at the age of 92 years.
Peggy attended rural grade schools and graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton, South Dakota. She later graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Pierre, South Dakota. She was recruited to practice Nursing at the Burke Hospital. Here she met Melvin "Buzz" Duerfeldt, whom she married on January 15, 1946. To this union three children were born: Raymond, Dorothy and Robert.
Peggy worked at the Burke Hospital as an RN, then as a Public Health Nurse for Gregory County for 24 years. After retiring, she worked part time with Clausen Funeral Home. She enjoyed baking, cooking, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of Americas and the Rosebud Quilt Guild.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Buzz"; her parents, Myrtle and Clifford; her daughter-in-law, Mary; one brother, John; two sisters: Mary Schwartz and Sister Patrice Phillips.
Peggy is survived by her children: Ray and wife Paulette of Omaha, NE; Dorothy of Valentine, NE and Bob of Gregory, SD; two grandsons and their wives; three granddaughters and their husbands; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald and wife Mary Lou of Winner, SD; and multiple nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burke, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. There will be a rosary on Friday at 7:00 PM at the Church in Burke. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
