Marcia June Bachmann, age 73, died Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 while being taken care of at her daughter's home outside of Fairfax, SD.
Marcia was born in Lynch, NE on October 3rd, 1952 to Elmer and Dorothy (Wilson) Bachmann. They lived outside of Fairfax, SD at their family farm. At the age of 9, Marcia and her 3 siblings moved with their parents to California. They had made their home in Covina, CA where all of them were raised and attended school.
Marcia waitressed in her younger years and then went in to customer service. She was a customer service representative for many years. During these years, she had her 1 and only child, Sherry, in 1981. Eventually, Marcia and Sherry moved and made their life in Azusa, CA.
In the winter of 2003, Marcia, Sherry and Marcia's 1st grandson, Austin, moved to Sioux Falls, SD. In Sioux Falls, Marcia worked at Total Card in the fraud department where she ended up retiring so that she could sell her house and move to Fairfax, SD to be closer to her grandchildren.
In December of 2025, Marcia was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and also had cancer on her sacrum. She refused to have chemo, but did take 10 sessions of radiation. The cancer was aggressive. By June, the cancer had spread significantly and she was put on hospice. She moved down to Sherry's house where her sister, Peggy, and her daughter, Sherry, took care of her, with the help of the Avera Hospice team. Pastor Alex Bendig also took time out of his day to come down and talk to Marcia.
Marcia lost her battle today, July 23rd. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Dorothy (Wilson) Bachmann, her good friend Mike Calcagnini, her grandparents on both sides and many aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her daughter Sherry and her son-in-law AJ Jensen of Fairfax, SD, her sister Peggy and her brother-in-law Mark Shadley of Piedmont, SD. She is also survived by her grandkids Austin and JayCee (Bartling) Jensen, Anton Jensen and Ayden Jensen. Also, by her great grandkids Myles and Lainey Jensen. She was so proud of her family and loved them very much.
