September 10, 1927 – May 25, 2019
Lyle "Red" Wayne Fuhrer was born near Bonesteel, SD on September 20, 1927. He was the ninth of eleven children born to Herman and Lucy (Brunemier) Fuhrer. He died May 25, 2019 at the Butte Nursing Home at the age of 91 years.
Lyle attended Naper Public School into the 8th grade. He quit school to work on the farm when his older brothers went into military service. Lyle joined the Navy on January 11, 1946.
Lyle was united in marriage to Esther Neumiller on January 26, 1948. They were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They lived on farms in the Naper area and moved to the current family farm northeast of Naper. In addition to farming, Lyle sold MoorMans Feed in the surrounding area. Lyle enjoyed farming and often worked from sunup to sundown. He also enjoyed playing cards and seldom missed Wednesday's card club at the Naper Cafe. He loved watching baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals. He was active on the Naper School Board, Church Council, helped teach GI School and assisted establishing the 1st Rural Water District in Boyd County.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Esther; parents; brothers: Ben, Harry, Bob, Ray, Allen and sisters: Gertrude, Lila, and two infant sisters; a great-grandson Josef Parker and a granddaughter Suzanne Fuhrer.
Lyle is survived by his children; Wes Fuhrer (Teri) of Lincoln, NE; Keith Fuhrer (Vicki) of Newman Grove, NE; Deann Fuhrer Nielsen of Sioux Falls, SD; Dwight Fuhrer (Linda) of Lincoln, NE; Lee Fuhrer Of Lincoln, NE; Len Fuhrer of Norfolk, NE; Bonnie Whitley (Tim) of Naper, NE; and Clark Fuhrer of Naper, NE; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and his brother Frank.
