Louise "Peewee" Elaine Truax was born November 14, 1936 to Anton and Rose (Cotton) Jensen in Lake Andes, SD. Louise passed away peacefully in her home on April 5, 2020 at the age of 83.
Louise grew up on the family ranch near Scalp Creek with her six siblings. Louise helped on the ranch with chores and tended to the large gardens which were necessary to feed the family.
Louise attended Scalp Creek School until the eighth grade. She then attended high school in Bonesteel. Louise also helped take care of her grandparents while she attended school.
On August 14, 1962 Louise was united in marriage to Alvin Bentz. On a farm outside of Fairfax, they raised five daughters: Cindy, Star, Myra, Nora, and Toni. After losing the love of her life, Louise moved into Fairfax where she continued to raise her daughters.
Louise first worked at Mary's Café in Fairfax and later got a job in food service at the Fairfax School. Louise eventually took classes in food preparation at South Dakota State University and purchased Mary's Café in Fairfax. Louise's service to the community became her pride and joy. After 33 years of dedicated operation, the business established its legacy among the locals which will always be remembered as 'Louise's Café'. Louise retired in 2014 and continued to find joy in baking and cooking for her friends and family. She also enjoyed embroidery, taking care of her yard, and restoring old furniture.
Louise was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Louise was also a member of the Gregory County and Fairfax Historical Societies.
Louise is survived by her five daughters: Cindy Brandt (Milton), Star Zeisler, Myra Warnke (Virg), Nora Weber, and Toni Bentz; her sisters, Marilyn Weidner, Carol Schroeder, Mary Ellen Vogt, Sandra Cahoy, and Nila Koenig (Ronnie); ten grandchildren who lovingly called her "Grandma Weezy"; and many great grandchildren.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; infant daughter, Elaine; and brother, Helmer.
Private family graveside services for Louise Truax, 83, of Fairfax, South Dakota will be held Friday, April 10, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfax.
