Louie Janousek was born May 19, 1935 at Hamill South Dakota, son of Frank and Anna (Pistulka) Janousek and he died at Avera Gregory Hospital in Gregory SD on January 1, 2014 at the age of 78 years.
Louie grew up in St. Charles and Fairfax areas and attended both St. Charles and Fairfax Schools graduating from Fairfax in 1953. On June 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Ohri of Fairfax and to this union was born three sons, Doug, Kevin and Kelly and one daughter Deb. In 1959 Louie, JoAnn and Doug moved to Sloan, Iowa where he managed an elevator until 1961. In these years Deb and Kevin were born. In 1961 they moved back to the old Ohri farmstead 9 miles east of Fairfax until 1970. The last child, Kelly was born during this time. In 1970 they moved to the Joe Ohri farm which was acknowledged as a "Century Farm" in 2004.
During his younger years, Louie was very active in sports, car racing and hunting. He also loved a good card game with friends and greatly enjoyed dancing. Most of all his passion was farming, ranching and caring for animals and pets.
Louie served on several organizations and boards such as 4-H, Fairfax School Board, Farm Credit Administration, NFO and was instrumental in bringing in the East Gregory County Rural Water System. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he received highest honors of the 4th degree, St Anthony's Parish Council & choir and was a Commissioned Lay Minister of the Diocese of Rapid City.
Louie is survived by his children Doug (Marilee) of Fairfax, SD; Kevin (Shelley) of Fairfax SD; Kelly (Karen) of Bonesteel, SD; daughter Deb (Gary) Voller of Trail City, SD; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren along with relatives and many friends. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marianne O'Brian and his wife JoAnn.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St Anthony's Catholic Church in Fairfax, SD. There will be a rosary on Monday at 7:00 PM at the Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both of the services at the Church. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Cemetery, Fairfax.
