Loretta Mae Fuhrer passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years at the Holmes Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 3, 2026. She entered this world with her twin sister Laura on July 8, 1938 to Emra and Louise (Klein) Counts.

Upon graduation from Bonesteel High School, she continued to live and work in Bonesteel. Loretta married Melvin Fuhrer on June 21, 1958. They celebrated 54 years together before Mel’s passing in 2012. To this union five children were born. She was dedicated to loving and caring for her family. She also took great pride in her 34 years of service as the head cook in the Bonesteel School System. In her retirement years she enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends.

Loretta is survived by her brother, Kenneth (Doris) Counts; her children: Wayne (Cindy) Fuhrer, Janet (Mark) Griffin, Scott (Nicole) Fuhrer, and Clinton (Heather) Fuhrer; in addition to 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her sister, Laura Carsten; her brother, Walter Counts; one son, Dean Fuhrer and a great-grandson, Oliver Fuhrer.

Funeral services for Loretta Fuhrer, age 88, of Bonesteel, SD will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery, Bonesteel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
