Loreen Mae Schultz was born November 20, 1925 in rural Nebraska to Harold and Inda (Blitzkie) Tarr. Loreen died February 17, 2019 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 2 months, and 28 days.
Loreen graduated from St. Charles High School and attended college in Springfield, South Dakota obtaining her teaching certificate. She taught for one year.
On December 17, 1945 she married Alfred W. Schultz at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Herrick, South Dakota. To this union four children were born.
Loreen and Alfred lived on a farm southwest of Bonesteel all their married life. She was a homemaker and always enjoyed cooking a meal for family and friends. By fall the shelves were stocked with what she had canned, and the freezer was filled with chickens and corn. Homemade cookies were always a staple for the grandchildren.
Loreen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel, South Dakota and was an active member of the Ladie's Aid for many years. She was also a member of the Extension Club for years.
Loreen continued to live on the farm after Alfred's death until her health forced her to move to the Haisch Haus in Bonesteel, South Dakota. She resided there until her stroke caused her to become a resident of Wagner Good Samaritan Society in Wagner, South Dakota.
Loreen is survived by her four children Alfred Jr. (Michele) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Eugene (Carlette) of Winner, South Dakota; Bonnie Ryken of Yankton, South Dakota; and Myron of Bonesteel, South Dakota; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Dorothy Otto of St. James, Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Loreen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and one son-in-law.
Her kindness and big smile will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel, SD. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery, Bonesteel. Visitation will be Sunday at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
