Pepper
November 27, 1935 – December 30, 2024
Lois Jean (Williams) Pepper was born at her grandparents' home south of Bonesteel, South Dakota, to Roy and Alpha (Lunn) Williams on November 27, 1935. She passed away peacefully at the Lake Andes Health Center on December 30, 2024, from mental and physical complications.
Lois grew up in Bonesteel, attending country school and Bonesteel High School before graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1953. She worked as a teller in the Bonesteel bank both before and after graduation.
In 1955, Lois married Wayne Baldwin and together they had two sons, Michael Mark and Timothy David. As a homemaker, Lois poured her heart into caring for her family. Later, she moved to Winner, South Dakota, where she embraced a new professional role as the business manager at Midwest Auto and became an active member of the local Business and Professional Women's organization taking several trips with the group.
In 1990, Lois married Vernon Pepper. They had been schoolmates while growing up in Bonesteel. They enjoyed many travels together by airplane and camper; memorably trips to the Caribbean, Australia, and Sweden where Lois explored her ancestral home. After living in several different places, they eventually returned to Bonesteel where they made their home once again.
Lois had a great love for her family, a remarkable eye for decorating, and a love for collecting dishes. Affectionately known as the "Glitter Grandma," she was famous for her glitter-adorned greeting cards. A woman of faith, Lois was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel, where she played the organ and taught Sunday school in her younger years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Max Williams. She is survived by husband, Vernon; sons, Michael (Mary) Baldwin and Timothy (Mary Beth) Baldwin; her seven grandchildren, Lisa Baldwin, John Baldwin, Timmi (Mark) Bubac, Lindsay (Jared) Anderson, Paul (Bailee) Baldwin, Jesse Baldwin, and Alec Baldwin; and ten great-grandchildren, who brought endless pride and joy to her life.
