Obituary

Lois Irene Munson was born July 5, 1924 at Armour, South Dakota to Otto and Vera (Van Deusen) Hollmann and she died November 16, 2015 at the Gregory Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 91 years.
Lois attended country school during her elementary years and later graduated from Ravinia High School in 1942. She attended Southern Normal School at Springfield, South Dakota where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught country school in the Armour area.
Her friend Ruth invited Lois to go to California with her and Lois went, spending time in the war plant as 'Rosie the Riveter". During this time, Lois met her handsome husband-to-be, Douglas Munson, also a transplanted South Dakotan. After a short courtship they were married on October 8, 1944 in Santa Monica, California.
Several years later they returned to South Dakota, eventually moving to Armour where Douglas opened a blacksmith shop. Lois was a homemaker for many years, raising their three children: Cheryl, Greg and Wendy. When the children where older she returned to work, including running the school lunch program in Armour for many years.
In 1984 they retired and moved to Bonesteel. Lois was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ and involved in the extension club in Armour and study club in Bonesteel.
She and Doug enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center in Bonesteel, and Lois loved rolling dice for nickels.
After Douglas died in 2004, Lois continued living in their family home. She later moved to an apartment for a brief time finally moving into the Haisch Haus Assisted Living facility, which has been home for several years.
Lois' greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, and she loved making treats for them. She was a quiet soul for the most part, but her red-headed tenacity would show itself when it involved her kids, or what was right and fair to her.
Lois is survived by her three children: Cheryl (Ed) Jons of Bonesteel; Greg (Cyndi) Munson of Bloomfield, IA; Wendy (Harvey) Larson of Beresford, SD; her grandchildren: Jason (Monica) Jons, Justin (Jessica) Jons, Jaclyn (Michael) Hoffman, Jocelyn (Matt) Flattery, Thad (Chantelle) Munson, Matthew (Bethany) Munson, Mariah (Justin) Harsch, Kira (Chris) Moneke, Joshua Larson, Megan (Phil) Cowen and Thomas (Blaire) Larson; great-grandchildren: Emily, Madison and Chase Jons, Lauryn, Amelia, Hudson and Hayden Hoffman, Jackson, Alexandra, Tate and Bennett Flattery, Christian and Max Munson, Levi and Caleb Munson, Aubrey, Macy, Jacob and Ethan Harsch, Josephine, Samantha and Elizabeth Moneke, and one sister, Marilyn Butts of Rapid City, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Ted, and her sisters Ruby and Peggy.
After a short illness, Lois died peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior. Blessed be her memory.
