Lillie Marie Schroeder was born February 12, 1904 in Iowa to Frank and Amanda (Frank) Vetter and she died May 15, 2005 at the Lake Andes Health Care Center in Lake Andes, South Dakota at the age of 101 years, 3 months and 3 days.
Lillie moved to the Bonesteel area at a young age. She attended Bonesteel Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1923. She was united in marriage to Henry Schroeder on June 24, 1928 at Fairfax, South Dakota and to this union four children were born. They farmed south of Bonesteel all of their married life. They retired and moved to Bonesteel in 1973. Henry died in 1996.
Lillie enjoyed cooking, baking, and waiting for family to come to her door. She was a charter member of the Pleasant Valley Extension Club, beginning in 1935 and lasting until 1987. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel where she was involved with the Ladies Aide.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters: Alma and Hilda and two grandsons.
Lillie is survived by her children: Melvin and wife Carol of Bonesteel, SD; Ervin and wife Lorrayne of Bonesteel, SD; Elva and husband Darwin Klein of Bonesteel, SD; and Janice and husband Rex Balcom of Mitchell, SD; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Frances Penke of Ashland, NE and Amanda Schochenmaier of Olivia, MN; and two sisters-in-law: Ella Schroeder and Gertrude Schroeder both of Sacramento, CA.
