Leona Magdalena Faust was born August 19, 1920 at Brocksburg, Nebraska to Rudolph and Lydia (Layh) Wetzler and she died July 13, 2012 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 91 years.
Leona grew up on a farm and lived in the Herrick area most of her young life. After high school she attended and graduated from Southern State Normal School in Springfield, South Dakota. She taught school for several years in and around Gregory County. She was united in marriage to Burr Faust on December 27, 1942. They lived on the farm north of Lucas, South Dakota their entire married life.
Leona enjoyed her garden, baking, traveling, entertaining, and writing her God inspired poems.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burr; two brothers: Harold and Alfred; and by her sister, Lorene Jensen. She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen Heatherman of Tulsa, OK, and Jeannie Faust of Gillette, WY; her sisters: Irma Wells of Norfolk, NE; Laura Odenbach of Billings, MT; Ester Krueger of Ft. Collins, CO and Lela Bouslaugh of Gregory, SD and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the First Assembly of God Church in Gregory, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery of Burke, South Dakota. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
