Laurence Dean Koenig was born February 25, 1948 at Fairfax, South Dakota to Joseph P. and Ida (Humpal) Koenig. He died September 21, 2010 at his home in Butte, Nebraska at the age of 62 years.

Laurence grew up on the family farm east of Fairfax. He attended school there and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1966. He then attended the National College of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota, graduating with an Associate Degree.

He returned to Fairfax and was employed at the Rosebud Farmers Union. He later returned to the family farm and also worked for various hog farms in the area until his health failed. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and watching sports. Playing cards and visiting were a favorite pastime. He had a kind heart with a strong interest in his nieces and nephews and their families. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Laurence was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Laurence is survived by his sisters: Lorraine (Terry) Liewer of Fairfax, South Dakota and Lee (Ken) Reiser of Butte, Nebraska; and by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

Laurence will be sadly missed by his relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax, SD. Visitation will begin at 5:30 PM on Friday, with a rosary at 7:30 PM, at the church in Butte.
