Obituary

Larry Lee McCarthy was born to Joe & Sophie McCarthy on August 6, 1940 at Gregory, SD. He received his education at Spotted Tail school and began his life-long career and love of farming at a young age.
Dorothy Freeman caught his eye and they were married on October 16, 1965 at Burke. Four sons, Gary, Jerry, Tim and Terry completed their family and together they farmed and milked cows. Tearfully, Larry and the boys said goodbye to Dorothy on May 18, 1988.
Jan Fries came into Larrys life and the two were married on September 17, 1994. Together they enjoyed three adventurous years before Larry suffered a stroke. Traveling, even if it was to look at an ole John Deere, was something they truly enjoyed, but dancing and card playing also passed the time and made them lots of friends.
Larrys stroke had affected his speech which he struggled with, but he was always good for a laugh and a twinkle of his eye.
Larry is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, and his father, Joe.
He is survived by his wife, Jan; mother, Sophie; sons Gary, Jerry & Susie, Tim & Cindy, and Terry & Shara; grandchildren Madison, Dylan, Ashlyn, Megyn, Carter, Collin and Courtney; brothers Leroy & Maxine and David & Lisa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be in the Spotted Tail Cemetery, Jamison. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday at 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will be prior to both of the services at the funeral home.
