Obituary

Karon Faye Steele was born November 9, 1946 at Gregory, South Dakota to Lyle and Cecil (Alexander) Vaughn and she died May 17, 2008 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota after a short battle with cancer.

Karon grew up south of St. Charles, South Dakota. She attended school in St. Charles and graduated from Bonesteel High School. She graduated from Southern State in Springfield, South Dakota in 1966 with a degree in Business.

On June 21, 1969 Karon married Clayton Steele of Geddes and to this union two children were born: Shane and Michelle.

Karon was an avid sports fan, not only with the local sports teams but she was also a die hard Packers fan. Her last vacation was spent with her husband and children in Green Bay, Wisconsin watching Farve make his first and only Lambo Leap.

After 38 years of living away from home, Karon and Clayton have enjoyed the last two years living amongst family. Karon was presently working at the Insurance Center in Burke and had recently obtained her insurance agents license.

Karon is survived by her husband, Clayton; her son, Shane and wife Dana and two step-grandchildren Maddison and Hunter; her daughter, Michelle and husband Scott Ryan and grandson Trevor; four sisters: Ada Mae Moody, Inez Tech, Rose (LaMone) Kerner and her twin sister Sharon (Helmer) Jensen; two brothers: Ray (DeAnne) Vaughn and Paul (Betty) Vaughn; sisters-in-law: Karon (Eugene) Kocer, Janet Schulte, Valerie (Darrell) Hildebrand and Sharon Hunter; one brother-in-law: Kenny Steele and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Karon was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mildred (in infancy); one brother, Lyle, Jr. and his wife Loretta; and two brothers-in-law: Don Moody and Darrell Tech.

Karon was a very special person who was loved by many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Civic Center in Burke. Burial will at a later date. There will be a prayer service on Monday at 7:00 PM at the Civic Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the Civic Center.
