John P. Seiler, age 80, journeyed home to be with his beloved wife, Rose (deceased September 27, 1997) on Saturday, March 18th, 2006. He was born on March 4, 1926 to George and Catherine (Schaefbauer) Seiler at Artas, South Dakota.

John was united in marriage to Rose Mary Welk on June 27, 1949 in Hague, North Dakota. They farmed in Greenway, South Dakota from the beginning of their marriage until 1967. They moved to Eureka, South Dakota where they lived until 1985. They also resided in Scranton, North Dakota, Watertown, South Dakota, Bonesteel, South Dakota and John moved to Fairfax, South Dakota in 1998. The past year he had resided at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Redfield, South Dakota.

John loved fishing, carpentry, country music, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed snacking on Mountain Dew and Snickers.

Survivors include his two sons: Terry and wife Marilyn of Fairfax, SD; and John and wife Reine of St. Louis, MO; five daughters: Paulette Holzwarth of Shelly, MN; Mary and husband Leroy Anderson of Redfield, SD; Pam Whitmore of Sarasota, FL; Marlene and husband Kent Petterborg of Boise, ID; and Kay and husband John Clark of Erwinna, PA; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; his brother Tom and wife Kate Seiler of Aberdeen, SD; his sisters: Maryann and husband Syl Wolf of Zeeland, ND; Bernice Wolf of Zeeland, ND; and Veronica Meier of Mandan, ND; one sister-in-law, Lena Seiler of Bismark, ND and one brother-in-law, Larry Engelhart of Aberdeen, SD.

John was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers: Bobby and Leo; one sister, Alice and one granddaughter, Jody Anderson.





Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Fairfax. There will be a rosary on Tuesday at 8 PM at the Church. Visitation will be prior to both services at the Church.
