John Mathew Davis, age 62, left peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. John was born February 4, 1948 in Burke, South Dakota to Mike & Lenora (Kramer) Davis.
John attended school in St. Charles and Bonesteel, South Dakota, graduating from Bonesteel in 1966. After finishing high school he enlisted in the Air Force on November 6, 1967. He served at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas; McChord Air Force Base, Washington; Thailand and Norton Air Force Base, California. John specialized as an Air Freight Specialist, Aircraft Loader, Forklift Operator and Air Traffic Controller. He was discharged on November 5, 1973.
After returning to South Dakota he worked at numerous professions including owning & operating Johns Standard Station in Bonesteel, driving school bus and milk truck and working at the Gregory County Highway Department for 25 years.
On December 24, 1968 John was united in marriage to Roberta (Bobbi) Parker. Born to this union were three sons: Shawn, Cory & Chris.
John was a past member of the local Fire Department, Roy Garringer Legion Post of Bonesteel, South Dakota and various church and city boards. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Bonesteel.
John was a neighbor always willing to lend a helping hand. In his spare time he enjoyed working on small engines. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor, friend & servant and will be missed by all.
John is survived by wife Roberta (Bobbi); sons: Shawn (Joan) of Spencer, NE; Cory (Jeanne) & Chris (Ashley) both of Bonesteel, SD. John was a loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. Siblings include: Sarah Schmitz of Butte, NE; Donna (Carl) Ludemann of Naper, NE; Norm (Melva) Davis of Sioux Falls, SD and Joan Kaye Davis of Chamberlain, SD. Surviving sister-in-law, Rhonda (Gregg) Marcellus of ONeill, NE; brother-in-law, John (Shelley) Ullrich of Norfolk, NE. Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, beloved friends & neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery in Fairfax. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 PM, with a 7 PM prayer service, at the funeral home.
