Joan Adell Krueger was born July 24, 1926 near St. Charles, South Dakota to Wallace and Ethel (Lewis) Peppel and she died July 24, 2010 at the Gregory Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 84 years.
Joan grew up on the family farm near St. Charles. She attended and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to Leon Krueger on September 11, 1944 at the Methodist Parsonage in Burke, South Dakota. To this union five children were born: Connie, Betty, Jim, Dan and Judy.
Together they farmed and raised their family near St. Charles. Joan always raised a big garden and chickens. She was a wonderful cook. Her homemade, hand stitched quilts, embroidered pillow cases and dresser scarves are treasured by all who were lucky enough to have one or two. She was an avid reader later in life, keeping count of the number of books read each year, 150 last year. She worked for the St. Charles and Bonesteel Post Office as well as the Bonesteel School. She has been a life long member of the Methodist Church, first at St. Charles and then at Herrick. She also enjoyed being a member of the Herrick American Legion Auxiliary and the Home Extension Club.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Leon in April of 2005; her sister Carol; her grandson Donnie and her granddaughter Paula.
Those most honored to share her life are her daughters: Connie (Eugene) Pistulka of Fairfax, SD; Betty (Jim) Hoar of Murdo, SD; and Judy (Milton) Feddersen of Murdo, SD; her sons: Jim (Diane) of Huron, SD and Dan (Sandy) of Gregory, SD; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert (Lorraine) Peppel of Herrick, SD and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Methodist Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Rosebud Cemetery in Bonesteel. There will be a prayer service on Monday at 7:30 PM at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church.
