Jenna Mae Davis was born September 27, 1917 to Leroy and Pearl (Kelly) Kibby on their homestead located on the banks of the Keya Paha River in Boyd County, Nebraska. She died June 26, 2008 at the Gregory Health Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 90 years.
Jenna graduated from Butte High School in 1936. She then taught school for the next three years. She renewed her teaching certificate at Wayne State Teachers College before returning to Naper, Nebraska to marry the love of her life, John Davis. John and Jenna were married October 10, 1939 and set up house at their ranch south of Naper, where Jenna lived the rest of her life. Four children were born to this union.
Jenna was a member of the West End Club, and participated in league bowling for several years. She was an avid crafter, and during her early years she wove rugs, quilted and embroidered. However, it was her crochet work that she was known for. Over the years she crocheted numerous doilies, bedspreads, and baby afghans. In addition to her crafting, she was a talented cook and baker who enjoyed entertaining. Friends and family would gather at her home and she always had something delicious waiting for them. She was known for her fried chicken, homemade buns, cinnamon rolls and wild plum jelly to name just a few.
Jenna will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
