Janice R. Childress was born March 29, 1942 at Princeton, West Virginia to Delbert and Rosalean Dobbins. She died January 29, 2024 at the Avera Gregory Healthcare Center at the age of 81 years.
Janice became an Air Force bride when she married Garland Childress in Florida. They were then stationed at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida. While at the base they were blessed with two children. She worked as a seamstress during that time.
In 1972 her husband received orders to move to Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. After a year on base she discovered her love for bingo. Other hobbies included bird watching, gardening and canning what she grew. Tomatoes were her favorite. Janice also worked at Simplot Vegetable Plant for more than 20 years. The plant went out of business and she turned to K-Mart for another 10 years of work.
Janice moved back to West Virginia to be with friends and family. While there she worked at Pilgrims Pride for 7 years. She then retired and moved to South Dakota to be with her daughter.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Tim Dobbins; her sister Ruby (Dobbins) Hawkens; her husband Garland and her son Terry Childress.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Rosa and Gayle Good of Herrick, SD; her grandchildren: LaTisha (Childress) and husband Monty Ealy of Rapid City, SD; LaRae Arroyo of Rapid City, SD; KaLena Arroyo of Rapid City, SD; AnJelica Arroyo of Mitchell, SD; Ryan Childress of Texas; and Sarah (Childress) and husband Pete McCann of Oregon; her great-grandchildren: Laney Arroyo, Isaiah Arroyo, Trivera Arroyo, Haley Arroyo, Montez Ealy, Arianna Ealy, Kianni Arroyo, Malcolm McCann and Logan McCann.
Memorial Services for Janice Childress will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke.
