Obituary

James Raymond Schrader was born March 14, 1939 at Brocksburg, Nebraska to Bill and Dorothy (Dunn) Schrader.

Jim attended school at Brocksburg until the age of 14, when he returned home to ranch full time. In April of 1969, James was married to Gloria Serr of Dallas, SD. To this union, three children were born: Lori, LuAnne, and Shane, who were also raised on the family farm. With the exception of one year at the George Smith ranch south of Bassett, James continued to own and operate, along with his brother Stanley, the Wolf Creek Ranch.During these years, Jim developed a lifelong love of rodeo. Jim spent many years bull riding and wild horse racing with his brothers.Other than rodeo, James also loved to hunt, passing this on to his children and grandchildren.

Jim was a compassionate man who held family and friends above all else. Although he had many other interests, hisbiggest love was his family.Jim dearly loved his children, but his grandchildren were his passion. Grampy made time to attend all of his grandchildren's events and saw everything through their eyes. Jim was able to take atrip to California with his children and grandchildren in 2006.He was also eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great grandchild in January.Failing health prompted his move to Atkinson, Nebraska, where he was able to live with his children andgrandchildren.

James signed on as one of God's ranch hands peacefully at home, with all of his family members at his side, on November 4, 2007. With no more earthly crosses to bear, Jim rode offto the great round up in the sky.

Jim is survived by his children: Lori and husband Darrell Keirnes of Stuart, NE; LuAnne Schrader of Atkinson, NE; and Shane Schrader of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving Jim are his beloved grandchildren: Lisa Heskett of Cement, OK; Kayli Cornemann of Atkinson, NE; and Kinzi and Doolin Ryans of Atkinson, NE. Jim is also survived by 4 brothers: Joe ofStuart, NE; Darrell and wife Deanna of Rapid City, SD; Robert and wife Inez of Upton, WY; Leroy (Tuff) and wife Della of Lusk, WY; and 5 sisters: Mildred Kittleman of Alliance, NE; Bonnie and husband Kenneth Endes of Bakersfield, CA; Ruth and husband Charlie Krejci of Lance Creek, WY; Violet and husband Merlin Brumbaugh of Newport, NE; and Myrna and husband Harold Zimbelman of Gregory, SD.
