I nez Luree (Green) Schmitz was born February 19, 1931 on a farm near Herrick, South Dakota to Vern and Mabel (Alexander) Green and she died March 27, 2016 at the Atkinson Good Samaritan Center in Atkinson, Nebraska at the age of 85 years.
Inez's family moved to a farm south of Herrick in 1916, where she attended the Goodman School through the eighth grade. She lived with her parents until she was united in marriage to Donald Schmitz on November 21, 1950. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage before Donald passed away in 2004. To this union six children were born.
Inez lived with her family while Donald served in Korea until April of 1953. Upon his discharge from the Army, they lived briefly in Naper, Nebraska until moving to a farm 7 miles west of Butte, Nebraska in 1953. In 1960 they moved to a farm 2 1/2 miles east of Naper, where they resided until 1993, when they moved their house to Naper. In 2013 Inez sold her house and moved to North Park Homes in O'Neill, Nebraska before moving to the nursing home in July of 2015.
Inez cooked at the Naper Public School District No. 21 for many years. She also worked at the Butte Healthcare Center for over 14 years. She was a member of the Naper Sacred Heart Alter Society and later the Ss Peter & Paul CCW. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Naper Post 8256. Her hobbies were embroidering, cooking for her children and grandchildren, playing cards and fishing with Don.
Inez is survived by her six children: James and wife Patricia of Lynch, NE; Patricia and husband Melvin Knox of Ewing, NE; Connie and husband Daryl Krugman of Papillion, NE; Diane and husband Jerry Pribil of O'Neill, NE; Nancy Schmitz of O'Neill, NE; and Sandra and husband Fred Meyer of Atkinson, NE; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law: Leonard Schmitz and wife Thelma of Naper, NE; sisters-in-law: Helen Higgins of Naper, NE; Bennetta and husband Roger Roth of Spencer, NE; and Margaret Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Inez was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters: Ruby, Ada, Vergie, Emma and Iona Belle; her brothers: Lloyd and Everett and her siblings' spouses; three brothers-in-law: Patrick Higgins, Mervin Higgins and John Schmitz; and one great-grandson, Adrian.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Naper. There will be a rosary on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both of the services at the Church.
