Obituary

Herman Chris Neumiller was born on Friday, December 14, 1928 near Fairfax, South Dakota to Chris and Lydia (Kulm) Neumiller.  He was one of seven children and attended grade schools in rural Fairfax, South Dakota; Gross, Nebraska and finally rural Naper.  Herman graduated from Naper High School in 1947.

He was united in marriage to Betty Mae Odenbach on Saturday, July 1, 1950 in Yankton, South Dakota.  He and Betty Mae purchased their farm southwest of Naper and lived there for 64 years before their home was destroyed by fire on December 16, 2014.  To this union five children were born.

He and Betty Mae then moved to the Good Samaritan Society of Atkinson where they have lived for the past two years.  Herman passed away there surrounded by family on Monday, May 8, 2017.

Herman loved the time he spent on the farm.  He continued to enjoy working there until 2014 when health concerns forced him to stop.  For many years, Herman competed in area tractor pulls with his John Deere Mt winning numerous trophies. Herman especially enjoyed visiting with family, friends or any people he encountered.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Mae, four children, Dale (Sandy) Neumiller, O'Neill, NE; Hale (Janet) Neumiller, O'Neill, NE; Darcy (Darrell) Hoffard, Sac City, IA; and Dion (Becka) Neumiller, Broken Bow, NE; Six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents: infant daughter, Betty; two sisters, Edna and Esther; and brother, Arthur (Art).
