Obituary

Herman Robert Bendig was born August 17, 1934 in Boyd County, Nebraska to Paul and Vera (Ott) Bendig and he died February 4, 2015 at the West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson, Nebraska at the age of 80 years.

Herman grew up in the Naper area and attended country school at District #48. He was united in marriage to Grace Faatz on April 22, 1961 at Naper. To this union four children were born: Kenneth, Elaine, Cindy and Kelly. Together they milked cows for more than 23 years.

Herman had many interests in life, including playing cards, attending tractor pulls, collecting toy tractors, hauling hay and buildings, woodworking and tinkering with various projects. He also enjoyed mowing, tilling gardens and had a great sense of humor. Herman was a member of the South Dakota National Guard, the First Congregational Church in Naper and served on the School Board, NFO Board, Township Board and on the Church Board.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Leslie, Walter "Bud", Leonard, Albert and Art; his mother and father-in-law Albert and Louise Faatz; brothers-in-law, Marvin, Wayne and Earl Faatz, and Don Stahlecker; his sisters-in-law: Loretta Faatz, Charlene Bendig, Marge Bendig and Ellen Bendig.

Herman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Grace; his son, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Bendig of Atkinson, NE; his daughter, Elaine (Kevin) Wenner of Branson, MO; his daughter, Cindy (Randall) Klinger of Atkinson, NE; his son Kelly (Monica) Bendig of Naper, NE; 8 grandchildren: Dustin, Kylie, Miranda, Jason, Benjamin, Baxter, Alex and Amber; 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Ray and Marvin (Mitch); his sisters: Ethel Stahlecker, Lorraine (Bob) Woehl, Margaret (Dave) Heien, Florence (Bill) Rogero, Alma (Richard) Tiernan and his sister-in-law: Marilyn Faatz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church in Naper, NE. Burial will be in the Knollcrest Cemetery in Naper. There will be a prayer service on Friday at 7 pm at the Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services.
