Helen Lorene (Stars) Andrews, 62, entered into the spirit world on September 17, 2011, surrounded by family, relatives, and friends. Helen was born on November 18, 1948, to Joseph Jr. and Opal (Marshall) Stars, at the All Saints Episcopal cottage in rural St. Charles, South Dakota. While growing up on the Stars family ranch, she attended the Goodman School in rural Herrick, SD, where for a number of years she was the only female student. Helen also attended and graduated from the Springfield School for girls. Helen went on to receive training and graduate from United Sioux Tribes in 1969.
On September 23, 1966 Helen was united in marriage to Jesse Andrews Jr. Today is their 45th wedding anniversary. From this marriage they had three children, Charlene Pickner, Karla Kirkpatrick, and Galen Andrews. Helen and Jesse lived in Pierre, South Dakota, for twenty three years before moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1995. Helen was hard working and dedicated in all the work she did, especially while employed with Milks Camp Industries, the Federal Aviation Administration, and Delta Dental. She enjoyed square dancing, playing sports and spending time with her family. For many years, Helen was a member of a bowling league and pitched for her softball team.
After retiring from softball she was the only female in Pierre to have coached a men"s softball team. Helen spent most of her days caring for her son, Galen Andrews. One of her favorite hobbies was playing bingo on Friday evenings with her mother Opal. Helen faced many medical obstacles in her life but never let any of them prevent her from living a happy life.
Helen is survived by her husband, Jesse, and children, Charlene Pickner and fianc" Matt Jones, Karla Kirkpatrick and husband Kevin, and Galen Andrews; mother, Opal Stars; brothers, Dr. Lorenzo Stars, Donald Stars Sr., and wife Bernie; sisters, Pam Stars and significant other Randy Bouche, and Lisa Stars; grandson"s, Shaun, Shane, Shaye, Shad Pickner, and Trevor Andrews; great granddaughters Aubree and Anessa Pickner; nephews and nieces, Jered, Donald Jr., Joel, Alana, Erin Stars, Orin Black Spotted Horse, Trinity Lyons, Kimberly Stars, Ross, Nicole Bouche, Wiley, Winona, and Wyatt Pickner.
She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Stars Jr.; infant brother Melvin; Aunt Winona Stars; Grandparents, Joseph Sr. and Belle (Peniska) Stars, Reverend Charles and Blanche (Roubideaux) Marshall.

A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 7pm at the Calvary Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. Wake services will be held on Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the City Auditorium in Bonesteel, SD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011, at 2pm at the Bonesteel City Auditorium. Burial will be at the Ponca Creek UCC Cemetery, in the Milk"s Camp community.
