Harvey started working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Aberdeen and also the BIA in Rosebud, SD. He later took a break from his career to care for his father after his mother passed away. In 1989, Harvey came back to work for the BIA in Aberdeen as a Cartographic Technician. He received many awards during his working career. Due to health reasons he retired on disability July 2002. After the passing of his father, Harvey entered the Aberdeen Health and Rehab where he received excellent care until his passing.

Harvey liked watching the Food and History Channels on television. He was a good cook. He enjoyed the visits from his nephew and family. Seeing his two little granddaughters brought such joy and happiness to his heart. He enjoyed the visits from his sister who would read to him, pray with him and just talk about any subject that came up during their visits. He enjoyed meals with her that she would bring in.

He loved praying the rosary. He also enjoyed the visits from his special cousin and her family who travelled from out of town. Harvey thought the world of his nephew Erik and family. He was so proud of Erik's educational achievements and career as a law enforcement officer. His heart was about to burst with pride and joy when Erik and Cynthia made him a "Grandpa" with the birth of Makenna and Aubrynn.

Previously, while Harvey was still working, he and his father would drive through and visit all the small towns around Aberdeen. He enjoyed the county and small town scenery. Harvey was fond of his special grand niece, Taylor, who kept his spirit up and his heart happy.

Survivors include one sister, Lila Topalian, of Aberdeen, one nephew, Erik (Cynthia) Red Hill, two granddaughters, Makenna and Aubrynn, all of Aberdeen; special cousin Pauline (Ernie) Pourier and family of Vermillion, SD and a grand niece, Taylor Chasing Hawk of Colome, SD.
