Harold Raymond Johnson was born on a farm southeast of Lucas, South Dakota on June 1, 1927 and passed away January 13, 2016. He was one of nine children born to Charles and Olive (Fish) Johnson. He grew up on a farm with his eight siblings and attended schools in the Lucas area.
Harold and wife Mildred (Nelson) began their 68 years of married life together on July 13, 1947. Seven children were born to this union, David, Laura Dianne, Patricia, Beverly, Jeffery, Douglas, and Sarah. Most of their years were spent ranching in the Lucas area but did work for a short time in Nashville, TN and Sioux City, IA. Harold and Mildred retired and moved to Burke in 2003, where they resided at the time of his death.
Harold accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young man and was baptized on June 26, 1938. He was a member of the Lucas Baptist Church where he attended throughout his life. Due to his health, he spent the last few years faithfully listening to Harold Salem sermons each Sunday morning on television.
Harold is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Burke, SD; his seven children, David and wife Anna, of Burke, SD; Laura Dianne and husband Ronald Frame, of Pierre, SD; Patricia and husband Mark Hanrahan, of Milesville, SD; Beverly and husband Randy Wilson, of Pierre, SD; Jeffery and wife Mary Grace of Sioux Falls, SD; Douglas and wife Carol, of Burke, SD; Sarah and husband Alan Birney, of Onida, SD; fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Justin, Adrie, Kalie, Chad, Tracie, Christina, Danielle, Makayla, Miranda, Ashley, Samantha, Andrew, Malorie, Caitlin, Berkley, Cadince and Preston. Three sisters Marjorie Swift of Philip, SD; Irene Pine of Torrance, CA; Luella Frey of Moscow, ID. Two brothers, George Johnson of Gregory, SD and Robert Johnson of Gregory, SD, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Almond and Leslie and one sister Millie Osnes.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Union Baptist Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, at the Church.
